Alan Gibbons currently serves as the Ambassador of Ireland to the Czech Republic, having taken up this role in Prague in August 2023. Throughout his career with the Irish Foreign Ministry, Alan has undertaken a range of previous foreign postings, including in Copenhagen, New York and Washington. He has also done a number of secondments, including to the Slovenian Foreign Ministry in Ljubljana and to the Asian Development Bank in Manila. While serving in Dublin, Alan has worked on a wide range of policy issues, including European Union policy, Ireland’s development cooperation programme, Africa, human rights policy, Northern Ireland issues and Ireland’s relations with the UK. He also undertook a secondment to Ireland’s Prime Minister’s (Taoiseach’s) Department.
